Insight | When Oily Skin Is Actually Dehydrated

I noticed a father and his teenage son standing outside our centre for quite a while before finally walking in.

After speaking with them, I learned that the boy was a classmate of one of our younger clients and was experiencing a similar acne problem. He enjoys playing sports and wondered whether sweating from frequent exercise might be contributing to his breakouts.

After analysing his skin, I explained what I observed: his skin was producing excess oil, yet the surface was dehydrated and congested with blackheads, clogged pores and active breakouts.

Instead of simply focusing on the pimples, I chose to begin with a Deep Cleansing Treatment . We carefully cleansed the skin, cleared suitable visible congestion and followed with calming care for the irritated areas.

I also explained that professional treatment is only one part of the journey. Consistent and appropriate home skincare is important to help manage oil, congestion and future breakouts.

After almost two hours of careful treatment, his skin was thoroughly cleansed and we had taken the first step in his skin journey.

Now, I look forward to seeing how his skin progresses when he returns next month.

My Insight
Teenage acne is not always simply “oily skin.”

Sometimes the skin can be oily on the surface while still lacking hydration. Lifestyle, sweat, hormones, skincare habits and pore congestion can all play a part.

That is why at DE SENZE, we don’t just look at the pimples — we look at the skin behind the problem.
